South West Second Team champions for the third year running

Final v Gloucestershire at Taunton and Pickeridge GC
Sunday 30th September

The CLCGA Second Team had a superb 5.5/3.5 win over Gloucestershire at Taunton and Pickeridge GC at the weekend in the regional Second Team Final. Cornwall are therefore South West Second Team champions for the third year running.

The team was Cath Hopkins (Launceston), Annie Lobb (Newquay) Penny Cartwright, Caroline Hume-Kendall (St Enodoc) Angie Chapman, Vicky Lee Comyn (Perranporth) Jo Body & Kira Barnes (West Cornwall), supported by County Vice Captain Vicki Stevenson along with County Captain Sue Roworth and President Helen Davey

The foursomes matches started with a win for a very strong Gloucestershire pair in the first match against Caroline and Kira but wins for Angie and Vicky and Cath and Annie meant that Cornwall were 2/1 up at lunchtime.

After a very quick turnaround we were out on the course again. Wins for Gloucestershire in the first two singles matches put the pressure on Cornwall. A fine win for Jo Body, returning to the Second Team after a long absence, levelled the score at 3 all. This was followed by wins for Annie and Cath and a halved match for Penny who finished strongly winning two of the last three holes. So a fantastic win again for the Second Team against Gloucestershire who are always very strong opposition.

Gloucestershire were gracious in defeat and their County President presented the Shield to Vice Captain Vicki Stevenson.

A big thank you to Taunton and Pickeridge GC for hosting the match and looking after us all so well.
